Delivering Effective and Valuable Profile Reviews: Best Practices
As a Review My Hinge reviewer, your primary role is to provide users with honest, insightful, and actionable feedback that can genuinely help them improve their dating profiles.
Accessing and Managing Assigned Requests
'My Reviews' Tab
All your assigned requests are managed through the 'My Reviews' tab in the app.
Filtering Requests
You can filter requests by:
All:
Shows all non-cancelled requests.
To Do:
Displays new requests awaiting your review ('Submitted' status) and reviews you've started but not yet completed ('Review In Progress' status).
Completed:
Shows all reviews you have successfully delivered.
Starting a Review
Navigate to the user's Request Details (accessible via the 'Reviews' tab).
The Review Delivery Interface - A Step-by-Step Process
Our app provides a structured, step-by-step interface to guide you through the review process. You'll be able to view all photos and profile information (answers to contextual questions) submitted by the user.
Photo Gallery & Impressions
Look at all provided photos. Consider composition, lighting, facial expression, activity shown, and how they might come across to potential matches. Remember that you're not just evaluating photo quality but also the story each image tells and its effectiveness for a dating profile.
For Text Reviews:
Check the user's bio and any prompt responses. Are they engaging? Do they give insight into the person's personality? Are there any red flags or missed opportunities to showcase interests, humor, or depth? Consider both what's included and what's missing.
Pay attention to any specific questions or goals the user mentioned. If they asked for help with their 'first photo' or mentioned they're 'looking for something serious,' tailor your feedback accordingly.
This should reflect the user's overall dating profile effectiveness based on the package they purchased.
- Clarity, lighting, composition
- What the photo communicates (personality, interests, lifestyle)
- Pose, expression, background
- Its effectiveness as a lead photo vs. a supporting photo
- Actionable advice: "Replace this photo with one showing X" or "Crop this photo to focus on Y."
For Video Reviews:
Familiarize yourself with all photos to discuss them in your video. You can download photos for easier reference during recording.
Overall Review (Primarily for Text Reviews)
This section is optional but highly recommended for text reviews.
Pros:
What's working well in the profile? What are its strengths?
Cons:
What aspects are weak or potentially off-putting? Be honest but constructive.
Suggestions:
Provide 3-5 clear, actionable suggestions for improvement.
Category Ratings (For All Review Types)
Rate the profile on a 1-5 scale across these categories:
Aesthetic
Visual appeal of photos, overall look
Personality
How well their character and interests come through
Uniqueness
How much the profile stands out
Charm
Approachability and likeability
Energy Balance
The perceived balance between fun/playful and mature/stable energy
Important: Ensure your ratings are consistent with your detailed feedback.
Video Review (For Video/Consultation Packages)
Plan Your Video
Review all user materials thoroughly. Outline key points you want to cover.
Recording Software
Use reliable screen recording software (e.g., Loom, OBS, QuickTime for Mac, Xbox Game Bar for Windows).
Quality
Ensure clear audio (use a microphone if possible) and good video quality if you're showing your face. Minimize background noise.
Content
If your package includes video, conduct a comprehensive walkthrough of the user's profile. Verbally comment on each photo, discuss their bio/prompts, and provide your recommendations clearly.
Duration
Aim for the duration implied by your package, typically 5-15 minutes depending on depth. (Maximum 5 minutes if uploaded directly to app, longer if linked from YouTube/Vimeo).
Upload
Upload your completed video file (MP4 or MOV, ideally under 1GB for app uploads). You'll receive a public URL from our R2 storage.
Video Comments
If the video package includes a consultation component, you'll have a live or scheduled video call with the user to discuss their profile and answer questions in real-time.
Recommendations (Optional for all review types)
If you genuinely believe the user would significantly benefit from professional photography or fashion/styling help beyond what your review can cover, you can recommend these services.
Be Specific:
Briefly explain why you're making the recommendation (e.g., "Investing in professional photos could greatly improve your first impressions, as current photos are poorly lit and don't showcase your features well.").
Do Not Hard Sell:
This is an optional suggestion, not a sales pitch.
Saving Drafts
You can save your review as a draft at any point during the process. This is useful for longer reviews or if you need to step away.
Saving a draft will change the request status to 'Review In Progress'.
Submitting the Final Review
Once you have completed all necessary sections for the package type, carefully review your feedback for clarity, typos, and completeness.
Click 'Submit Review'. This action is final.
The user will be notified that their review is ready. The request status will change to 'Completed'.
Your earnings for this review will be processed and credited to your wallet.
Best Practices for High-Quality Feedback
Be Thorough
Address all key aspects of a dating profile.
Be Specific & Actionable
Don't just say "good photos"; explain why they are good. Don't just say "bio needs work"; suggest how to improve it.
Be Constructive
Frame criticism positively. Focus on potential for improvement.
Be Empathetic
Remember users are looking for genuine help.
Maintain Professionalism
Use clear language, check for grammar/spelling.
Adhere to Your Style
If you're a "Roast Master," maintain that tone but still provide underlying value. If you're a "Dating Coach,' offer insightful advice.
Meet Deadlines
Deliver reviews within your stated response time. If a delay is unavoidable, communicate this if possible (though direct user-reviewer messaging may not be a feature initially; aim to prevent delays).
